The Plaid Debate

Plaid is a popular trend in fashion, no doubt. However, there is some debate on whether or not this trend transfers as nicely over into weddings as, say, lace. I think if done right, plaid can be a fun pattern to include in weddings, but definitely not overdone. Perhaps just on the cake, or as bridesmaid dresses. A little bit of this pattern goes a long way! Below is some inspiration for plaid weddings.

Vintage Garden Journal Invitation

Inspired by this board from Snippet and Ink, this invitation by Zenadia Design is truly a one of a kind keepsake. Modeled after a garden journal, it features the story of how Lela and Kevin met, as well as a seed packet of when the first “seeds were planted.” Invitation and weekend event info is found on the following pages, as well as blank pages at the back of the hand bound book where guests can record their thoughts and paste pictures from the event to really make the invitation book personal to them.

The journal invitation was delivered in a box, resting on a bed of real moss.

It’s pages featured different plant and flower species that were special to Lela and Kevin, and being used in the wedding celebration.

Entrancing Color with Kishani Perera

Entrancing color, balance and incredible details are all elements of an interior done by Kishani Perera. Ever since I saw this post from the blog Elements of Style, I’ve had a major obsession with Kishani Perera. Her interiors are the epitome of luxury and taste. I’ve gotten so much inspiration from her design for everything from my own home to color palettes for weddings, as has been evident here. Santa Barbara Talent: Nico Designs

Working in the wedding industry, you get to meet lots of amazingly talented people. The Santa Barbara area especially has some incredible talent, so I’ve decided to start a series of post dedicated to the fabulous wedding vendors in the Santa Barbara area.

Kicking off the series is the fabulous Nico Cervantes of Nico Designs. I had the pleasure of meeting Nico a few months ago and continue to be absolutely amazed at his talent. He definitely has a knack for style and color, as well as keeping ahead of the trends in the industry. He’s been featured recently on Wedding Chicks and Style Me Pretty, and is definitely one to keep an eye on! Be sure to follow him on twitter and become a fan on Facebook. Below is some of his recent work that I’m completely head over heels for.

Color Done Right

A while back 100 Layer Cake featured this wedding, photographed by Michele M. Waite, and I have to say it’s one of my favorite weddings to date simply because of the way the color scheme was done. The bride, Melanie, wanted a wedding that was bright and vibrant, but also soft and timeless. I love how she put the wedding party in fun and vibrant colors…

…and used soft muted tones for the reception…

You would think that these colors might clash, but on the contrary, it’s quite stunning! This just goes to show that you don’t have to have one set color scheme for both your ceremony and reception. I hope we see a growing trend of multiple color schemes for weddings. It’s such fun and definitely keeps things fun for the guests.

Ballet Inspired Loveliness

I am completely head over heels for ballet, as you know from this post. So when I was thumbing through the last issue of Martha Stewart Weddings in the store, I came across this feature with the American Ballet Theater dancers and I bought the issue, JUST because of this feature. Inspiration At Home

Whenever I create an invitation, I’m always excited to hear what my clients color palette’s are for their event, as I believe color plays a big role in our senses and how we feel and react to things. I’ve always had a fascination for color, so when it came time for me to decorate my home, I knew I wanted lots of warm and inviting colors. Taking my inspiration from French and Italian decor, I created an environment that I fine peaceful, warm and welcoming. My favorite place to be when I want to relax is in my home. I think it’s so fun to see people’s houses, so I thought I would take a minute and share mine with you.

Family is very important to me, so we have a huge family wall in our living room with our wedding picture in the middle and our families on either side.

The white cabinet in the background is an old medicine cabinet my grandpa had in his workshop. I always saw potential in it, as it was a mess at the time, so my dad took it and painted it for me.

These are some of the things I keep in the cabinet. Everything in the cabinet came from my granny and means a lot to me.

My office, located in my home, is painted in one of my favorite colors. When I first started my business, red was one of the colors in my branding. I’ve since changed my branding style which no longer includes red, but I’ve kept it in my office because I find it such a fun and inspiring color to work around.

Bold and Beautiful

One of the places I constantly find inspiration is from fashion. I get Harper’s Bazaar every month and love looking through each issue. In the February issue, they featured some trends for Spring 2010. They mixed a lot of different patterns together for a fresh and fun look and I loved it! I created my own inspiration board with a couple images from the spread, as well as an invitation inspired by the board. I love the bold look of the black and white, and the pop of yellow that really gives it a fresh and fun vibe.

Carvival Inspired

Whenever I have a little down time, I like to design invitations just for fun. My mind is constantly thinking of new invitation designs so it’s always fun to sit down and create a design that’s been on my mind for a while. Several months ago I had some down time, so off to work I went on a few invitations. This one was inspired by the board below from Snippet and Ink. Zenadia Design set out to create an invitation that was unique and full of fun, with personal and vintage touches here and there. Below is our inspiration and the invitation.

This invitation features a laser cut outline to match the design on the merry go round and a hand drawn illustration by Francis Birchfield. Reply card is embellished with vintage carnival tickets and red and white stripes line the mailing envelope.

Lovely in Lace

One of the most requested materials for invitations this year has been lace. I’ve always loved lace, and the fact that it can be dressed up or down for a formal or casual celebration. Lace has been one of my favorite materials to work with for quite some time now so I’ve been really excited at all the lace invitation requests I’ve had this year.
