    Engage! 11: Day Three {The Gala}

Posted in: BLOG CATEGORIES, Engage! Confrence, floral design, inspiration, travel, zenadia design news

Whew, onto day three of Engage! We started the morning off with another fabulous breakfast, and went right into the media panel, which was really great. Michelle Rago hosted it, and the speakers were Marilyn Oliveira from Inside Weddings Magazine, Christy Weber of Junebug Weddings, Jill Meister from Meister Innovative Consulting, Angela Desveaux from the magazine WedLuxe, Abby Larson of Style Me Pretty and Susan Moynihan from Destination Weddings and Honeymoons Magazine. They shared really great tips on getting published and held a q/a session, which was really interesting.

    EDay3_1

After the media panel we went right into our breakout sessions. My first one was with Diann Valentine…

    EDay3_2

second one was with Ellen Black of Lehr and Black. Loved that session, of course.

    EDay3_3

Last one was with Jasmine Star, Harmony Walton and Lara Casey. I really enjoyed their session and Jasmine is so super fun to listen to. Really inspiring.

    EDay3_4

After the sessions we were free for lunch and the remainder of the afternoon, to get ready for the Gala that night. The gala, was put on by the fabulous Mindy Weiss. Mark’s Garden did all the beautiful flowers and Lehr and Black did the paper products, which were again, fabulous. Before the doors were opened to the gala, we were treated to a cocktail hour, with some really cool furniture. The extra long couch (20 feet I think?) was my favorite.

    Engage11_Gala

Once they opened the doors to the gala, it was amazing. We were greeted by amazing amounts of red flowers and lighting, and a full 20 piece band was pretty much right in the middle of a song when the doors opened, as if they had been playing for a while. Needless to say, it was a killer entrance. You can get somewhat of the idea from the picture below…

    red_black_wedding

The tables alternated between fully mirrored, and mirrored tops with fabric draping. The chairs were all silver, and super comfy, unlike the beautiful but totally uncomfortable chiavari chairs.

    modern_wedding_details

The band was so amazing, and played throughout the entire dinner. It was really cool, because they would play music you could dance to in between each course of dinner, then while we were eating they would play cocktail type music. Also what was cool, was as each course was served the lighting would change. I really liked that effect.

    black_red_wedding_color

I loved, loved the fringe that hung above the band. That had to have been of my favorite details. After dinner, and a heck of a lot of dancing, the after party was opened. Another amazing room filled with incredibly posh details and a DJ who could really rock (DJ Nahchey of Dash Entertainment)

    after_party

It was such a pleasure to finally get to meet Eliana of Elly B Events. We had been e-mail pals for some time so it was so fun to finally get to meet in person!

Last but not least, the video from Engage! 11 Day Two and Three: Engage 11: Grand Del Mar // Wrap Film from Cloud Nine Creative.

All in all, Engage! 11 was an amazing experience. Huge thank you to Rebecca Grinnals and Kathryn Arce, as well as the team at The Gran Del Mar, for putting on such a wonderful and inspiring event. I definitely hope to attend Engage again in the future!

Engage! 11: Day One, part II

Posted in: BLOG CATEGORIES, Engage! Confrence, floral design, inspiration, travel, zenadia design news

Onto part II from Engage! 11. Still in day 1, after the opening sessions was the fabulous Welcome Party.

    EDay1_5

The party was held outside on the lawn, and they had two different bands. Both of them were amazing, but I did have a favorite. More on that in a minute. The stunning decor was by Eddie of Tic-Tock Couture Floral. When I met Eddie earlier in the day, he said what he was doing for the decor was going to be different, so I was excited to see what he put together. I’ve always been a huge fan of his work, and the welcome party definitely didn’t disappoint!

    EDay1_6

    Pictures by Jessica Claire.

I loved Eddie’s use of wicker and completely rustic elements infused with modern elements like orchids and succulents. Pictures below by me. =)

    EDay1_Me4

Besides awesome decor, there was so much food! Lining the entire perimeter of the party was food. Two food trucks, cotton candy, kettle corn, donuts, won-ton type things and the list goes on and on.

It was so great to schmooze with everyone in attendance and really get to know people the first day there.

    EDay1_8

Clockwise from top left are Beth Helmstetter and Marilyn Oliveira editor of Inside Weddings, Margot Hallac of Atelier Isabey and me, Lara Casey and David Beahm, and Candice Coppola of Jubilee Event having fun in the photo booth. All photos by Mel and Co.

Now, onto the bands of the evening. Like I said, both were great but one in particular blew my mind. They are called MASS Ensemble out of Los Angeles, and they were amazing. They played so many different instruments, but my favorite was the Earth Harp. I had never seen anything like it in my life…

    EDay1_9Pictures by Jessica Claire.

The strings were 170 feet long, and went from the instrument to the hotel building. The sound it made was so incredible too. I love this picture of Michelle Rago by Mel and Co. Shows how amazing the strings were.

    EDay1_10

Some other fun pictures from the evening, all by Jessica Claire. The first one is part of the MASS Ensemble band, second one is the amazing Sylvia Weinstock leaning about the Earth harp and the third one is the other band rocking the night away.

Last but certainly not least, is the recap video of day one from Cloud Nine Creative:  Engage Recap: Day 1

    The Unique Bridesmaid

Posted in: BLOG CATEGORIES, bridesmaids, fashion, floral design

A few weeks ago, Leila at Inspired By This did a fabulous post on mixing and matching bridesmaid dresses. I too, am a huge fan of the look! Bridesmaid dresses are seldom worn again, and giving your maids the chance to pick their own dress makes it more likely that they will wear it again, plus, they can pick a style they feel comfortable in. In addition to probably being worn again and being comfortable, mixing and matching dresses makes for some fabulous pictures and really lets the personality of each bridesmaid show through! After all, it’s personalities that make each wedding unique so give your maids a chance let their personalities come through too.

Another aspect to help make each bridesmaid unique, is giving them different bouquets. It could be all the same color with different types of flowers, or different styles of bouquets within your selected color scheme.

Posted in: BLOG CATEGORIES, floral design, inspiration, news worthy, Santa Barbara Talent, vendor spotlight

Working in the wedding industry, you get to meet lots of amazingly talented people. The Santa Barbara area especially has some incredible talent, so I’ve decided to start a series of post dedicated to the fabulous wedding vendors in the Santa Barbara area.

Kicking off the series is the fabulous Nico Cervantes of Nico Designs. I had the pleasure of meeting Nico a few months ago and continue to be absolutely amazed at his talent. He definitely has a knack for style and color, as well as keeping ahead of the trends in the industry. He’s been featured recently on Wedding Chicks and Style Me Pretty, and is definitely one to keep an eye on! Be sure to follow him on twitter and become a fan on Facebook. Below is some of his recent work that I’m completely head over heels for.

    Fantastically Floral

Posted in: BLOG CATEGORIES, floral design, I love..., vendor spotlight

Besides all things paper, I have a major passion for floral design in the wedding industry. In the recent issue of Nonpareil, I came across the work of Amy Osaba so I decided to peruse her website and I am so glad I did! Not only is Amy’s work absolutely stunning, she was also a professional ballet dancer and has since retired. How fun it was to find someone in the wedding industry who shares two of my same passions (floral design and ballet)! Amy’s work is so beautiful, and has that garden fresh picked look that I love. Below is some of Amy’s beautiful work. Enjoy!

I absolutely love what Amy did at the Art of Weddings Event. Check out the full post on her blog here.

    Lovely Lavender

Posted in: BLOG CATEGORIES, eco friendly weddings, floral design, locations, wedding locations

According to aromatherapy books, lavender can be an incredibly calming and relaxing scent. Not only is it calming, it’s also a lovely flower dried or live. Including lavender in your wedding decor is a beautiful and budget friendly way to add charm and elegance to your celebration. I think one of the most picturesque places for a wedding celebration is a lavender farm. California has several popping up here and there that are simply beautiful. One in particular caught my eye, Keys Creek Lavender Farm. Located in San Diego County, this farm is certified USDA Organic, which I love! Located on 8 acres of land, it features more than two dozen varieties of lavender, a labyrinth and bee hives where lavender honey is made. Talk about a some beautiful wedding photos! Below is some inspiration for lavender bouquets as well as some pictures of Keys Creek Lavender Farm.

A while back we did a post on succulents, and I think they have definitely grown in their popularity since then. Still a favorite of mine, succulents can add that unique pop to a bouquet or floral arrangement. Below are some of my favorite succulent arrangements as of late.

    Delightful Dahlia

Posted in: BLOG CATEGORIES, Fall inspirations, floral design, wedding decor

I absolutely love dahlias. They are so versitle and can be used in many different settings be it a vintage or modern celebration. They look good paired with other flower types or alone in bud vases. My favorites are the bouquets that look fresh picked from a garden, and have that informal look to them.
